Entrance Requirements
Our program is open to children ranging in age from 2-1/2 through 5 years. Children entering the 2-1/2 year-old class must be 30 months old by September 1st, and they must be potty-trained. Those entering the 3 and 4-year old classes must be the appropriate age by September 30.
The four/five-year-old class is open to children of both age groups who have had prior preschool experience. A teacher’s recommendation is required. This transitional class is offered for those children who are not age eligible to enter kindergarten and/or would benefit from another year of maturation.
The Kindergarten class is open to children who turn five on or before Sept. 30 of the enrolling year. Prospective kindergarteners may be screened for kindergarten readiness.
The school reserves the right to determine eligibility and placement of all applicants.
Tuition and Fees The Registration fee and Supply/Activity fee are due upon registering you child and are non-refundable. The Supply/Activity fee will help defray the cost of school supplies, field trips, mini-labs, and guest speakers. Tuition is determined for the entire year and then is divided by the nine months that preschool is in session. Therefore, regardless of the number of weeks per month, the monthly tuition payment remains constant. There is no reduction in tuition for shorter months or increase in tuition for longer months. Tuition checks should be made payable to Smithfield Baptist Preschool, and are due the first of each month. Any tuition not paid by the 15th of the month will be considered late and a $10.00 late fee will be charged to the account. For a child to continue at the preschool, the tuition and late fee must be paid by the end of the month. As always, we are willing to work with anyone who needs special consideration.
Withdrawal It is expected that a child will be in school for the entire school term and that the parents have accepted this financial obligation. In exceptional cases, when a child must be withdrawn, written notice must be given to the preschool director. Please be considerate and do not suddenly withdraw your child without giving us ample opportunity to fill his space. We would like 30 days notice that you are withdrawing your child; otherwise payment is expected for that month.
School Hours The school day is from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The Lumar Road entrance to the church is used for preschool. The door will be opened at 8:50 a.m. We ask that you bring your child to the classroom, and also meet your child at his room for 12:00 dismissal. Each child must be signed out at his classroom door at dismissal. Teachers may release children only to their parents and those adults authorized to pick up the children. Written permission is required for your child to be released to an adult not listed on the application authorization form. If in the event of an emergency you need to provide permission for another adult to pick up your child, a telephone call to the director will be accepted.
Health and Safety Cooperation of parents in helping prevent the spread of communicable diseases is essential. For the child’s own protection as well as other children, parents should keep their child at home when he shows such symptoms as sore throat, earache, runny nose, cough, nausea, and fever. If the child becomes ill at school, we will call you to pick him up. Please notify the school immediately if your child contracts a contagious disease such as chicken pox, strept throat, the flu, etc. If in doubt, it is usually best to keep them at home. Our staff will make every effort to help children observe good health practices such as handwashing, wearing appropriate outdoor wraps, using tissue for cleaning noses, and proper disposal of tissues. We will also help them develop good toileting habits and handwashing following toileting. Your child will be taught how to use the playground safely and how to display safe behavior within the building. Your support in reinforcing these expected behaviors is most appreciated.
